Reading the discards
What people throw away, and what it means.

The discards are the only public record of the hand, and they are read in two directions. What has gone tells you what you can no longer get. What each player has discarded tells you where they are not going.
Early discards are the honest ones. A player discarding a dragon on their second turn was never building winds and dragons. Later discards are worth less, because by then people are throwing tiles they have decided to abandon.
Tip
The most useful single habit is noticing when someone's discards change character. A player who has been throwing Craks all game and suddenly stops has found a use for them.
Reading ahead is fine. The path takes lessons in order, so this one ticks off once you get here.
