A concealed hand is built entirely from tiles you draw yourself. You may not call a discard to make an exposure, right up until the tile that completes the hand.
It is slower, and it pays more, and the reason is the same in both directions: nobody can read a hand that has shown nothing. You keep your options and your privacy, and you give up every discard on the table.
Tip
Concealed suits a rack that is already close and already has its pairs. It is a poor rescue plan for a hand that is struggling.
