Every tile in the game is in one of four places: your rack, the discards, an exposure, or somewhere you cannot see. The first three are all visible, and that is the whole trick.
Four of a tile exist. Subtract the ones in your hand, the ones discarded, and the ones sitting in exposures, and what remains is what could still reach you.
Tip
You do not need to track the whole set. Track the four or five tiles your own hand still needs. That is a small enough job to do every turn.
Reading ahead is fine. The path takes lessons in order, so this one ticks off once you get here.
