Defense

Abandoning your hand on purpose

Deciding to stop trying to win.

Advanced · lesson 7 of 21

When your hand is five tiles away and someone else has two exposures and a short wall, you are not in a race any more. Continuing to play for the win just means feeding them.

Switching to defense is a real decision with a real payoff: a wall game scores something for everyone still alive, and it scores nothing for the player who was about to win.

Tip

Once you have decided, reorganize around it. Keep your safe tiles and discard your useful ones while they are still safe to throw.

Reading ahead is fine. The path takes lessons in order, so this one ticks off once you get here.
