Winds and Dragons: the honor section

Sixteen hands, most of them a variation on two ideas, and the one concealed hand that spells the year.

The card · lesson 5 of 10

This section looks long because the card prints the same hand several times with different dragons. Read it as five ideas, not sixteen hands.

NNNN EEE WWW SSSS

All four winds, two of them as kongs. Every group takes a joker.

The two NEWS hands are the joker-friendly ones. With four winds already in hand and a joker or two, they finish quickly, and their twin swaps which winds are the kongs.

FF NNNN SSSS DD DD

North and South as kongs with two pairs of dragons. Printed three times for the three pairings of dragons, and again with East and West.

The dragon-pairs hands are six lines on the card and one hand in your head: a pair of flowers, two kongs of opposite winds, two pairs of dragons. The pairs are the catch. You need two of each dragon from the wall, with no help from jokers.

Any four consecutive numbers in one suit as singles, and all three dragons, one of them a kong.

One suit, these numbers only. Six of its eight groups are singles or pairs.

Concealed, 30. The year in one suit, wrapped in winds.

Tip

Any wind, any dragon: FFF NNNN FFF DDDD lets you pick the wind and the dragon. When you hold four of one wind, look here before you look anywhere else.
