13579: the odd numbers

Twenty hands, the biggest section on the card, and how to see it as a few families.

The card · lesson 10 of 10

A quarter of the card is odd numbers. Twenty hands is too many to hold in your head, so hold the families instead: low odds (1, 3, 5), high odds (5, 7, 9), and hands that use all five.

111 333 3333 5555

Two suits, the low family, 25. All pungs and kongs. Its twin is 555 777 7777 9999.

Those two are the odd section's answer to the even section's opener: every group takes a joker, and you only need two suits. When your odds cluster at one end, start here.

11 333 55 777 9999

One suit or three suits, all five odd numbers, 25. Two pairs take no joker.

113579 1111 1111

Three suits. A run of the odds with one of them paired, and two kongs of that same number in the other suits. Printed once per pair.

NN 1111 33 5555 SS

One suit, North or South only, 30. Its high twin is NN 5555 77 9999 SS.

1111 33 55 77 9999

One or two suits, 30. Three pairs in the middle, so the jokers can only go in the two kongs.

FF 135 777 999 DDD

One suit with the opposite dragon, concealed, 30.

Note

The three concealed hands at the bottom of the section pay 30 and 35 for the same reason the singles-and-pairs hands pay 50: you build them without calling. Two of them, FF 11 33 55 111 111 and its high twin, are three suits and these numbers only.
